2. Scope of work

Supply and installation of a 6.6 kW grid-connect photovoltaic system on a single-storey residence: 16 x 415 W modules on a Colorbond roof at 22 degrees pitch, 4.8 m from ground level to the gutter line. Work covers roof access and edge protection, rail-mounted racking with sealed roof penetrations, two DC strings run to a 5 kW string inverter on the garage wall, AC connection at the existing main switchboard on a dedicated solar circuit with DC and AC isolators, then testing and commissioning to AS/NZS 5033 and AS/NZS 3000. A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work is issued at handover and the grid connection application has already been lodged with the network distributor. This SWMS is prepared under Part 6.3 of the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017 (NSW) because the work involves two categories of high risk construction work: a risk of falling more than two metres, and work on or near energised electrical installations.

Suspension trauma rescue plan: never leave a worker hanging in a harness. Raise the alarm and call 000 immediately, deploy the trauma-relief straps fitted to every harness so the worker can take their weight on their legs, and recover them to the roof or the ground within 10 minutes using the 6 m rescue ladder. Do not lay a recovered worker flat — keep them seated and hand over to paramedics. Notifiable incidents: any death, serious injury or dangerous incident — including a fall from height, an electric shock, or an uncontrolled descent of plant or material — must be reported to SafeWork NSW on 13 10 50 immediately, and the incident site must not be disturbed beyond what is needed to make it safe or to help an injured person.

10. Monitoring and review

  • This SWMS is reviewed with all workers at the daily pre-start meeting.
  • Work stops and the SWMS is revised if conditions change or a new hazard appears.
  • The person responsible for reviewing control measures is Dan Whitmore.
